ColorDood ASO Case Study: Two Weeks of Rank Data on an Adult Coloring App

A ColorDood ASO case study from NewASO's own database: two weeks of US rank checks for an adult coloring app on Google Play and the App Store, the keyword that rose, the ones that did not move, and what the data cannot prove.

This **ASO case study** follows ColorDood, a free adult coloring book app, through its first two weeks of research and rank checks in NewASO. It reports the rank history stored in NewASO's database for US keywords, and it separates those results from the download milestones the developer publishes on its own blog.

The headline result is narrow. The head term adult coloring book on Google Play moved from 17 to 12 across the window, and two long-tail phrases entered the top 30 on Google Play. On iOS, the main term did not reach the top 30 on most checks. Download growth in the developer's blog happened before NewASO was used for this project.

Key takeaways

  • On Google Play, adult coloring book moved from 17 to 12 between the first and latest US checks, with its best position at 12.
  • adult coloring and adult coloring app entered the Google Play top 30 by the latest check, at 16 and 22.
  • On iOS, adult coloring apps entered the top 30 at 19. adult coloring book appeared at 29 on one check only.
  • The developer's download milestones (350+ and 650+) were published before NewASO was used on this project.
  • The sample is short and the keyword set changed between checks, so treat these as early signals.

What was measured

ColorDood is a free adult coloring book app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. It is published by Alright Tech LLC, the same developer as BloodSnap. The app runs on the device without an account, and this article makes no claim about its content beyond what is described on its developer site.

NewASO created the ColorDood project on 21 October 2026, ran a full research pass for both stores, and ran rank checks for US keywords from 22 October to 1 November. Each check is stored per keyword, per store, and per time in NewASO's local database. Those rows are the source for every rank figure in this article.

Results: keyword by keyword

Only keywords with checks on two different days are compared. The table shows the first and latest observation for each keyword. A position of 'not in top 30' means the keyword was checked and ColorDood did not appear in the top 30.

Where it worked

adult coloring book on Google Play is the main result. It was at 17 on the first check, sat between 16 and 20 on most checks, and reached 12 on the latest. Its best position was 12. The value of 30 on 29 October was a single check that dropped out of the top 30, and the later checks returned to the 12 to 16 range, so one day should not be read as a trend.

Two long-tail phrases on Google Play entered the top 30 by the latest check. adult coloring at 16 is closer to the head term, and adult coloring app at 22 is a more specific match for the product. Both were first checked on 22 October and were not ranked at that point.

Where it did not

On iOS, adult coloring book appeared at 29 on one check and was outside the top 30 on the others. adult coloring apps entered at 19 on the latest check. The iOS sample is thin, with few keywords checked on more than one day, so it is not enough to conclude that iOS ranks are rising.

The brand term colordood was at position 1 on both stores on the first check. Those checks were not repeated across the window, so the data cannot show whether the brand position held.

Downloads: the developer's numbers, not NewASO's

The developer's blog publishes download milestones for ColorDood. These are the only download growth figures available for this app, and they are self-reported. They are shown here in date order, because the dates are on the posts.

Date on the developer blogMilestoneStore split
10 August 2026One month: 100+ App Store, 60+ Google PlayGiven
24 August 2026350+ downloads on iOS and AndroidNot given
9 October 2026650+ downloads on iOS and AndroidNot given

Downloads went from 350+ to 650+ between 24 August and 9 October, and that growth happened before NewASO was used on this project. The NewASO project was created on 21 October. So the milestone growth on the blog cannot be attributed to NewASO, and this article does not attribute it.

NewASO's store snapshot for ColorDood, taken on 21 October, shows a Google Play install range of 100+. A range is not a count, so it confirms only the bucket on that day.

What changed in the window

The developer's blog lists a version 4.2 update on 30 October, inside the window. It adds a new icon, AI Imagine, 20 palettes, custom music, and optional Premium. The NewASO database does not record the store listing edits or the release dates in the window, so the rank changes cannot be tied to a specific release or edit.

What this case cannot prove

  • It cannot show that NewASO caused the rank changes, because the app and the store listing were not held still.
  • It cannot show download growth in the window, because the database has no download series for ColorDood.
  • It cannot show results beyond the top 30, because the checks stop at position 30.
  • It cannot predict results for a different app in a different category.
  • It is not a benchmark. Eleven days on one app in one market is a short sample.

What to do next

  1. Fix the keyword set for four weeks, so every check covers the same phrases.
  2. Check the same storefronts on the same schedule, so each keyword has a series.
  3. Save each listing version before a change, so a rank move can be tied to an edit.
  4. Record store download counts each week, because the database has no series to read from.
  5. Test the Google Play short description with the phrases that entered the top 30.

Where NewASO fits

NewASO ran the research, scoring, and rank checks for ColorDood in one local project, and it keeps the check history with the keyword set. It does not guarantee a rank, and it does not measure downloads. For the method behind the checks, read how to find app store keywords. For the BloodSnap example, read the BloodSnap case study.

Frequently asked questions

Did ColorDood rank higher on adult coloring book?

Yes, on Google Play in the US. It moved from 17 on 22 October to 12 on 1 November. The sample is short, and one check on 29 October dropped it out of the top 30.

Did ColorDood's downloads grow because of NewASO?

The developer's blog shows growth from 350+ in August to 650+ in October. That growth happened before NewASO was used on this project, so it cannot be attributed to NewASO.

Why does the iOS result look weaker?

Fewer iOS keywords were checked on more than one day, and the head term stayed outside the top 30 on most checks. The iOS sample is too thin to draw a conclusion.
